Just a quick question, I'm curious about the technical side of things. Which programming language(s) are UFL and UFL Manager written in?

Visual Basic 6.0

Can't you see what's going on? You can't really believe in it, right?

I don't know who that is, Joe. It might be some sort of spambot.

Joe, are you a Visual Basic 6.0 programmer?

I'm studying for a degree in computing but this year's programming language for the course is Java. I do have Visual Basic 6, but I've never had a chance to use it. It looks like a good language from what I've seen, I'm quite keen to learn it.

so, is there a possibility to develope the game further by our selves, or maybe Larry is planning to make som money off it in the future. Several of my friends are VERY VB skilled. Just say the word...

Yes, it would be possible to develop the game further ourselves. I even have the latest copy of the source code, but I would certainly need Larry's permission to give it out.

As far as I know, Larry is not planning on making money off of UFL. When we updated the DOS version of UFL to the Windows version, Larry told me that he had sold only a handful of the $30 DOS versions (my copy being one of them :) ), so he decided to release the Windows version for free.

I am an amateur VB6 programmer myself. I did some of the "cosmetics" in the Windows version of UFL and I've made a couple of applications and bingo games that you may have seen on my website. However, I do not have the necessary programming skills to update the real "meat" of UFL: things like the game engine, stat engine, scheduler, etc. The code is very cryptic to me, but I'm sure that a better VB programmer could figure out the methods and such that Larry used.

Lately, Larry has not had any time to put into UFL. And I don't blame him: he has a family and job to keep him busy. Still, I would like to see UFL receive some updates. If even half the features on the wishlist were added, UFL would become just that much better. And UFL has a rare but devastating bug that I call "the extra game bug" (I will detail this bug in a new thread later.) that must be fixed as soon as possible because it has the potential to "taint" leagues.

So, if you have friends who are good VB6 programmers (and it must be VB6. Personally, I do not want UFL to be made from VB.NET), I think that it may be time to send Larry an email and ask if he would object to someone else working on the code.

Update:

Killington, I have sent Larry an email asking him if it would be okay to send you a copy of the source code so that you could give it to your programmer friends. I am awaiting his response, and I will post the answer in this thread when I receive it.

Great, let me ask them if they got the time to look into this (if Larry wants ofcourse).

I do have still-graphic skills (photoshop, illustrator, CorelDraw) for logos, fields and stuff, but thats of course a later question :D

two of my programmer friends have offered to take a look on the wishlist and sorce code if Larry wants.

Killington, I have just received an email from Larry. He has given me permission to pass on the source code to you and your friends. His only condition was that his name is kept on the game as the original programmer. (I would have done that anyway :) ). So, in a few minutes, I will put the code in a ZIP file and send it to you as an email attachment.

Ben, would you mind emailing me a copy of that as well? Purely from a study point of view, I'm curious to see how it all comes together.
