WEEK 3 NOTABLE GAMES

Post by Daniel Warner »

PITTSBURGH 45 MIAMI 20

The Maulers (3-0) scored touchdowns on 3 of their first 4 possessions to snap a 3 gm losing streak to the hated Angels (1-2). LB Robert Abdullah swiped a Jim Powers pass on the 3rd play of the game and punched it in on a reverse to Michael Floyd the next play as Pittsburgh never looked back. The post game press conference saw Howard Schnellenberger shockingly resign head coaching duties, citing personal differences within the organization despite minority ownership in the team.

ORLANDO 27 PHILADELPHIA 20

The Warriors simply could not buy a break as they became the first defending champion to flop out of the gate 0-3 by having a seemingly 46 yd bomb from Jim Adair to Neilli Xavier with no time remaining negated when officials ruled Xavier shoved a defender in the back on his way up to meet the possible tying catch. QB Julius Williams had his finest day as a pro, completing 16-20 passes and a touchdown while rookie RB Robert McKenna rushed for two more scores for the Juice (2-1).

NEW JERSEY 22 FORT WORTH 17

Rolling Thunder (2-1) QB Danny Cavanaugh threw 4 interceptions and lost two fumbles, including an 11 yd return for touchdown by Aces (2-1) LB Isacc Fontaine after being sacked by Jerome Paradise for the only New Jersey TD. Jamell Forrest was knocked from the game with a concussion on a vicious collision with Fontaine, who also added an interception to win defensive player of the week.

CHARLOTTE 31 LAS VEGAS 17

QB Gale Donovan followed up his impressive 5 TD performance against Denver with another solid outing in Vegas as the Wildcats (2-1) dropped the Sharks (2-1). Normally docile Vegas coach Mark Levitt went on a post game tirade about his team being flagged 13 times, their highest total ever in his regime.

SAN ANTONIO 34 OAKLAND 31 OT

San Antonio (2-1) showed why they are a possible contender on the rise by earning a tough overtime victory in Oakland (2-1). Tracy Kramer hit on 24 of 39 passes for 380 yds and a pair of touchdown passes including a 19 yd flair to Earl Joby with 38 seconds to send it into OT. Juan Santino 23 yd FG gave the Rattlers the win.
