WEEK FIVE NOTABLE GAMES

Post by Daniel Warner »

ORLANDO 13 NEW JERSEY 20

The Aces dominated in yards (399-162), Time of Possession (37:40 to 22:20) and held Orlando to just 2 third down conversions in 15 tries, but still had to survive 4th and 9 from their own 11 yd line to prevent the Juice from gaining the possible tying score with just a minute left. George Wilson ate up another 133 yards on the ground, but lost 3 fumbles to keep the game closer than the stats indicated. The normally unshakable Julius Williams was under pressure the entire game, completing just 11 of 37 passes and was sacked 3 times.

PHILADELPHIA 27 SAN ANTONIO 20

While most teams couldn't imagine being tied for 1st place after an 0-3 start, the Warriors earned a share of the top spot in the mediocre USFL Central by scoring 17 unanswered points in the final ten minutes to take out the inconsistent Rattlers in San Antonio. Trailing 20-10 going into the 4th period, Jim Adair hit Jules Regan with a 7 yd strike, then Neilli Xavier (11 catches, 153 yds, 2 TD catches) on a 19 yd rainbow a few minutes later to take the lead for good.

MONTREAL 17 HOUSTON 40

No one can agree more with the expression "Everything is Bigger in Texas" than the Accolades, who suffered their worst loss in years and 2nd in a row in the Lone Star State. The Gambler defense, often thought to be the Achilles heel, played their best game of the season, knocking Kevin Graham from the game late with a shoulder injury after a miserable night. His counterpart Darrin Kelly has no such trouble, putting up 357 yds through the air and 3 touchdowns, 126 and a pair going to WR Sean Elk.

FORT WORTH 42 LAS VEGAS 13

In a early battle for the division, the Rolling Thunder rolled over the Sharks, outscoring Vegas 28-0 in the 2nd half after leading by just one point at halftime. LB Andrew Prince had the best game of his career, collecting two sacks and returning a pick 25 yds for a score. Travis Jarvis was outstanding in his first start filling in for the injured Jamel Forrester, with 113 yds and a TD.
